Spring Break, April 2010 in Pictures

Spring break in Destin, Florida

Dolphin Cruise

Feeding the birds. . .Molly obviously not enjoying the activity.

A little "sea sick."

I built at least 23 sand castles over the 6 days we were there.

Ohhhhh, how I love this picture.

Taking Sam and Molly on the jet ski. Molly's "least favorite" part of spring break.
Meg and Ben on the jet ski. Their favorite part of spring break!!!

Looking for shells.

Another not so favorite activity for Molly. She's not really the adventure type (so far).

Zip lining--the boys also did it twice, but I saw some sister missionaries and got "chatting" so I forgot to take pictures.

At the National Museum--Naval Aviation in Pensacola, FL.

Hilton Head The Beach

For spring break this year we went to Hilton Head, South Carolina. This was a perfect vacation for our family. We were across the street from the beach, and even though the temperature was in the high 60's we spent most of our time there. It was the first time my kids had ever been to the beach. This is my favorite picture of the trip. If you zoom in, you can see everyone was really laughing.

Picking up a variety of sea life for "souvenirs." One lady on the beach told me to bleach the sand dollars so they wouldn't stink and so they would look pretty. I ended up bleaching everything they brought home. It worked out great.

I will admit I did not venture in the water past my ankles, but everyone else spent A LOT of time there. It's amazing how freezing cold water never seems to bug anyone under the age of 15 years old.

Ben's goal for the spring trip break was to run every day on the beach. My goal for spring break, to get a tan and lay on the sand. We both accomplished our goals.

It was so nice to go back to our condo and not worry about the sand that was EVERYWHERE. Someone else had to clean it up.

Our FAAAAAVORITE part of Hilton Head was riding bikes. We rented them for the week and went EVERYWHERE on them. The sand on the beach is so hard packed that you can ride for 12 miles up and down. We probably spent at least 3-4 hours a day on bikes.

Loved going in the water and getting our shoes as wet as possible.

Almost everywhere looked so picturesque. I couldn't get enough of the trees.

Molly just along for the ride.

Unfortunately, about three blocks from our condo was this "roundabout" intersection. In order to go anywhere other than the beach we had to go through this intersection. Sam hated this intersection because every 50 feet there was a stop sign for the pedestrians and bike riders, but not for oncoming traffic. Therefore, Sam who only learned to ride his two wheeler recently, struggled with getting his foot positioned just so, and enough momentum to get going before the cars would begin coming again. Needless to say, Sam wrecked many times. One time he crashed so hard that he cracked his helmet. Thank goodness we (I mean me) are so obsessive about him wearing his helmet. So by the second or third day Sam opted to just get off his bike and walk/run it through this intersection.

Sam is mad that I took a picture of him going through the intersection while walking his bike, and instructed me to only take pictures of him "riding" his bike. Notice how he is positioning his pedal so he can begin with his right foot?

The first morning, Meg and I decided to take an early morning ride. Jackpot on the shells, sand dollars and star fish. We got everyone some, and it's a good thing, because we went out every other morning and never found as many as we did that first morning.
We rode to get ice cream. This ice cream is called rainbow sherbet, but Molly wanted princess ice cream which they do not make and, therefore, we told her this was called princess ice cream. We will be totally busted when she begins to read.

So many choices, so little time.

Oh my gosh, I got the best treat of all. It was two WARMED homemade cookies with chocolate ice cream in the middle. Are you kidding me? Where has this been all my life? I have to admit, I did feel a little sick after consuming that much chocolate.

We rode to dinner. . .

. . .to the pastry shop--a few times. We're working off the calories right?

One morning we went to Harbor Town to see the light house, boats and shops. Granma Kathy came with us and even rode her own bike everywhere.

At the top.

We saw quite a few aligators. I think they were planted for the tourists, but I always think everything is a conspiracy.
